Oil painting of a fall landscape with a lighthouse overlooking a rocky shore next to water at sunset.

Point aux Barques Lighthouse

At the "tip of the thumb", looking out over the great vast openness of Lake Huron, lies Point aux Barques Lighthouse. Among the ten oldest lighthouses in Michigan, it is still active and is maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard to this day. Seen here in autumn, the lighthouse rests in a nest of burnt reds and oranges as the grey-blue waves roll incessantly in. You may get a peaceful sense of winter approaching, and perhaps you may even be able to hear the waves themselves.
